Credit Cards

Do different credit cards become more and more popular? Of course there are advantages and disadvantages of having and using are card. When you use a credit card you are borrowing money from a lender. You will receive a monthly statement from your card provider or bank and you will be informed of the outstanding balance. You don’t have to pay the statement in full, but then there will incur interest charges.

Getting preapprovded

We all get those offers in the mail for preapproved credit cards. The advertisement makes it seem very simple: fill in this form, get the card. No strings attached. But have you wondered if everyone is really preapproved, or if this is only a marketing tool to get as many applications as possible? Have you wondered what would happen if you applied for every card offered?

Consider for a minute how your credit score affects your credit card application. Applying for a credit card is just like applying for any other kind of credit, whether it’s a home mortgage loan, a car loan, or a student loan. The lender will be giving you his money for short-term use, and you pay it back, plus interest, in a timely way. Every lender wants to know how much risk he has by lending you money. Will you pay it back? Will you pay on time? How much effort will he have to spend to get the money?

All of these questions are answered by your history, and that history is contained in your credit score. If you’ve always paid in full and on time in the past, then it’s likely that you will continue to do so in the future. If you have been late or in default, then you may do so again. Sometimes a negative score means you don’t get approved, but in other cases you could be approved with a higher interest rate. A lower score means higher risk to the lender, so the additional interest they get is their “reward” for taking a risk on your repayment.

Your credit score is the primary decision factor on whether or not your credit card application is approved. If you have a difficult credit history, consider applying for a card that specializes in difficult approvals.
